Intent
It is our intent for the Religious Education element of our school curriculum to engage, inspire, challenge and encourage pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to answer challenging questions, explore different religious beliefs, values and traditions and develop a more rigorous understanding of the numerous religious traditions, beliefs and practices that are followed in our multi-cultural society. We want them to know how religious education promotes discernment and enables pupils to combat prejudice, preparing them for adult life, employment and life-long learning.
Right to Withdraw from Religious Education
Religious Education (RE) forms an important part of our curriculum and is taught to all pupils.
Parents and carers have a legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education.
If you are considering withdrawing your child from RE, please contact Mrs Stinchon (Headteacher). We would welcome the opportunity to discuss the RE curriculum with you, including the content being taught and the practical arrangements for withdrawal.
Parents may choose to withdraw their child from the whole RE curriculum or from particular aspects of it. Where a pupil is withdrawn, the school will make appropriate arrangements for their supervision during the relevant lessons.
The right to withdraw applies specifically to Religious Education. It does not apply to other curriculum subjects where questions about religion, beliefs or worldviews may naturally arise, for example through history, English or geography.
