Welcome to Year 4!

Welcome to Year Four's class page! We have 29 wonderful children who will be supported by the amazing Mrs Whittaker and Miss Gallagher. Although, the children will have noticed many changes in school, they have settled in well and taken it all in their stride. We are sure that the children will have a successful year in Year 4 and they are working hard.

Please remember to look at our web pages and Facebook so that you can keep up-to-date with our fabulous learning. Below, you will find our Bucket List as well as our Booket List and other important information for this year.

Bucket List
The children have had some great ideas about the sort of things they would like to do this year!

• Make American food
• Make a wind turbine
• Make volcanoes
• Have a visit from the police
• Go to find some animals
• To be announced – It’s a surprise!

Booket List

1. The Firework Maker’s Daughter

2. The Boy at the Back of the Class

3. Bill’s New Frock

4. Charlotte’s Web

5. Why the Whales Came

6. World’s Worst Teachers

7. Fing

8. The Boy in the Dress

9. The Twits

10. 13-Storey Treehouse

Please remember to send in a healthy snack for break times but this must be kept in your child’s coat pocket.

Packed Lunch
Please place this in a wipeable small lunch bag or plastic box. Year 4 have their own shelf to store these. Unfortunately access to lunch bags/boxes is only permitted at lunch time.

Please ensure that your child’s PE kit is in school. It will be stored on their peg and will be sent home to be washed at the end of every half-term. If it requires washing prior to this, please ensure that it is in school on a Monday so that it can remain in school for the entire week.

Spelling: This will be set on Seesaw and will contain 10 words to learn every week. This will be set each Wednesday and tested the following Wednesday. Children will be asked to write them in sentences.

Maths: Please practise times tables with your child as they are vital. There will be a times table test at the end of year. These will be the first Y4s to complete it. In order to succeed, all Year 4 children need to know all of their times tables and division facts up to 12 x 12. Your child should already be able to rapidly recall their 3x, 4x and 8x tables and the related division facts so I would appreciate it very much if you could practise these if you know that your child does not know them yet. This will also be set on Seesaw but will be on a Friday.
Children will have one week to complete their homework. Please use TTRockstars for times table practise during the week. All the children have written down their log-in details in their homework log.

As the children read in school on a daily basis, they need to bring their reading book and reading log in every day. Please continue to hear your child read and ask them questions about the books that they are reading in order to develop their understanding and find evidence in the text. Children can note the books they read in their own reading log. Please share your child’s reading with us on Seesaw and remember that you can access the Accelerated Reader quizzes at home as the current restrictions mean that they may not have the same number of opportunities to complete them in school. If your child needs extra reading materials, please use books that they have at home, the library or those that they used when learning from home.

Please remember to read every night too!
