Welcome to the Trawden Forest Primary School Gardening Page!
We’re incredibly proud of the transformation of our school field into a vibrant gardening area — a true labour of love led by our amazing staff members, Mrs Nelson and Mr Lomax. Thanks to their dedication and hard work, our students now have the chance to grow their own food, create compost, and explore the wonders of the natural world, right here on school grounds.
A special shout-out to Mrs Nelson, whose passion and persistence also helped us achieve a prestigious award from the Royal Horticultural Society!
This space is more than just a garden — it's a living classroom where hands get muddy, curiosity grows, and young minds bloom. Be sure to check back regularly for updates and news posts below — we’ll be sharing the latest from our garden adventures!
Our Southport Flower Show Success
This summer, our school gardening journey reached a new milestone when we entered the Schools Design-A-Garden Competition organised by the Southport Flower Show. From almost 500 entries, our design, created by our enthusiastic school gardening club - was announced as the winning entry.
We then had the unforgettable opportunity to help build the garden itself, working alongside the talented designer Jason Williams (The Cloud Gardener), the inspiring Victoria Holden from NorthernLily, and with fantastic support from Northwest in Bloom. Together we brought our vision from paper to reality, creating a garden that reflected both our much-loved school growing area and the features we’d love to see in a future garden.
This was truly a garden for children, by children — with nature and sustainability at its heart — designed to celebrate the joy of growing.
The results were beyond anything we could have imagined. Not only did we win the Schools Design-A-Garden Competition, but our garden also received three incredible awards:
- Large Gold Medal
- The Timmerman Trophy for Best Show Garden (voted by the public)
- The Horticultural Achievement Award from the Guild of Horticultural Judges
To achieve this at such a well-loved event was truly unforgettable, and a proud moment for everyone involved. Even more special is that our show garden won’t just be a memory — it is being relocated to Farnborough Road Primary School in Southport, so children and families can continue to enjoy it for years to come. That means there will always be a little piece of Trawden blooming in Southport!
