What a start to the week!
After a super start to the year last week, it was Year 5's first Forest School session this afternoon.

Our focus this half term is den/shelter building. This links in with our English and History work on The World at War. Children were given a very basic brief for their first attempt- their structure needed a stable roof to provide cover for the whole group.

Armed with planks, tarpaulins, tyres, crates and long branches children got to building! They showed great ingenuity , team work and communication as well as fantastic problem-solving skills.

In the coming weeks, in class, children will learn more about different wartime shelters and why they were so important during World War 2 and their shelter briefs will include more complex criteria as the topic goes on too.

An excellent first session Year 5!
