Meet the Team
Year 6
Welcome to Year 6!
We can't wait for a wonderfully exciting year with our Year 6 children as they enter their final year at Trawden Forest Primary. This year, we have Mrs Atkinson, Mrs Waters, Mr Lomax and myself all working together to help the children in Year 6 have a superb and successful final year. Over the course of this year, we will be working hard to learn a wide range of new concepts, making discoveries and working hard to become more resilient learners.
Please remember to look at our news articles, newsletters and Facebook page, so that you can keep up-to-date with our fabulous learning and know what is coming up.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to arrange an appointment via the school office or send me an email.

Homework
Spelling
Each Friday, children will be given up to 15 new spelling words to learn, which will be written in their Homework Book. These spellings will be tested the following Friday.
During the test, each word will be read aloud in a sentence to give the children context, before they write it down. At the end of the test, they will also write a full dictated sentence. This helps them practise using their spellings in context and reinforces previously taught words.
Homework
Homework will also be set on Mondays and should be handed in by the following Monday. Sometimes, this may change, depending on their personalised learning needs. Homework will always be explained in class so children know what is expected, though sometimes they may need a little extra support at home to consolidate their learning.
Maths
Please continue to practise times tables with your child as they are vital for Year 6 maths.
- TTRockstars is an excellent resource for times table practice. If your child has misplaced their login, please let us know so we can provide it again.
Reading
Reading is part of our daily routine in school, so children need to bring their reading book and reading record book in every day. Please continue to read with your child at home and ask questions to support their comprehension and encourage deeper thinking about the text
- All books read can be logged in your child’s yellow reading record, and we kindly ask that this is signed each time they read.
- Accelerated Reader quizzes can also be accessed at home, helping your child to track their progress. Just click the link on our ‘Pupil Zone’ page.
- If your child would like extra reading materials, feel free to use books from home, your local library, or books they enjoyed during home learning.

Reminders
Water
Please make sure your child brings water in a labelled water bottle to school every day. This helps them stay hydrated throughout the day and can also be used at lunchtime.
Healthy Snack
Children may bring a healthy snack for morning or afternoon playtime, such as fruit or low-sugar snack.
- Snacks should be kept in their tray (not their lunchbox) until eaten.
- Please avoid chocolate, crisps, or high-sugar snacks.
- As we are a nut-free school, please avoid any snacks containing nuts to keep everyone safe.
- More information can be found on our ‘Snacks & Lunch’ page.
Packed Lunch
Packed lunches should be in a wipeable lunch bag or plastic box. Year 4 lunches are stored on a shelf outside the dining hall and can only be accessed at lunchtime.
PE Kits
Please ensure your child’s PE kit is kept in school each week. Kits will stay on your child’s peg and will be sent home at the end of every half term for washing. If it needs washing sooner, please return it on a Monday so it is available for the whole week.
Forest School
On Forest School days, children come to school in their outdoor forest school kit (wearing either school shoes or plain black trainers). Children will need waterproof clothing as well as their Forest School kit and wellies/boots. This could be a waterproof all-in-one suit, or separate waterproof trousers and a coat. These extra layers help keep children warm, dry, and comfortable and the outdoor footwear keeps their feet dry… whatever the weather!
