What an exciting day for our Year 4 students! They were transported back in time when the History Man visited, dressed in authentic attire from the era of The Great Plague. His captivating stories brought history to life, revealing what people once believed caused the plague, what we now know truly caused it, and the inventive ways people tried to fight it.
The children were far from passive listeners – they became engaged historians! Our guest brought along a treasure trove of artefacts and resources, giving pupils the chance to explore the past through hands-on discovery.
In the second half of the session, the fun truly began. The children took part in a range of activities, including:
-
Writing letters of wellness to imagine what it might have been like to leave their town
-
Dressing up as people from the past
-
Weaving wooden slats to make a wall
-
And the highlight of the day – creating their own “medical potions” using herbs and spices once thought to ward off the plague!
Our classroom was soon filled with the delightful scents of their mixtures – aromas that may linger for weeks to come!
A huge thank you to the History Man for bringing history to life and inspiring our budding historians. What a fabulous way to learn about the past!
