EYFS Maths Adventures This Week
This week in EYFS we have been exploring lots of exciting mathematical activities. The children have been practising their sorting skills by grouping different objects according to size, colour, and material. This hands-on learning encouraged the children to notice similarities and differences, developing their mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
We have also been learning about 2D shapes. The children enjoyed using different shapes to design and build their own houses. Following their interests, this naturally led into a collaborative project where the children drew their houses on paper and arranged them together to create a street. This provided opportunities not only to consolidate their understanding of shapes, but also to apply their learning in a creative and meaningful way.
These activities link closely with the Early Learning Goals in mathematics, particularly in Number and Numerical Patterns, as well as Understanding the World through exploring and representing their own ideas. The children showed curiosity, imagination, and perseverance, and we are very proud of how they are developing their early maths skills.
