This week, Year 6 had an exciting opportunity to take part in a Lego workshop where they became architects, engineers, and historians all at once!
Working in teams, the children were challenged to recreate some of the world’s most famous monuments using nothing but their creativity, teamwork, and plenty of Lego bricks. The monuments they built included:
-
The Golden Gate Bridge – with its tall towers and long sweeping span.
-
The Great Wall of China – stretching across the table, with some winding around - just like the real one.
-
Inca Temples – carefully built step by step to reflect the incredible designs of the Inca civilisation (these were particularly difficult and took a lot of patience and dexterity).
-
The Parthenon – with columns and symmetry to echo the great temple of Ancient Greece.
Not only did the children practise problem-solving and design skills, but they also learned more about the history and geography of these remarkable landmarks. There was plenty of teamwork and pride as the monuments came together piece by piece.
By the end of the workshop, our classroom looked like a miniature world tour! Well done, Year 6 – your monuments were truly monumental!
