Y1 had a fantastic afternoon learning about The Great Fire of London with the History Man.
He told us all about the fire and how it started. We looked at some of the materials the houses were made from to discover why it spread so fast. The children formed a chain passing a bucket of water along until they put out the fire (Mrs Alcock!)
The History Man showed us how easily a spark could turn into a fire and we pretended to be houses close together spreading the flames. We then pretended to blow up some houses to cerate a fire break but that didn't stop Noah getting a bucket on his head!
The children really enjoyed getting hands on weaving whattle walls, throwing 'buckets' on the fire and playing with toys from the time. They played a game to illustrate how far and how quickly the fire spread.
They also showed off their science skills by matching objects to the materials used to make them.
We were all really enthused by the visit and can't wait to carry on learning about the Fire of London.
