Yesterday, our Year 5 and 6 Eco Warriors had a fantastic opportunity to attend a Fairtrade Conference at County Hall in Preston. The day was packed with engaging, hands-on workshops that helped the children deepen their understanding of global trade and fairness.
One of the highlights was making chocolate from real cocoa beans, where pupils learned about the journey from bean to bar and the importance of fair pay for cocoa farmers. They also tracked the journey of a banana, discovering the many stages involved in bringing fruit from farms overseas to our local shops. In another thoughtful activity, the children took on the role of decision-makers, choosing how Fairtrade funds should be spent in African villages to best support local communities.
The children were impeccably behaved throughout the day and represented our school wonderfully. They participated enthusiastically in every activity, asked insightful questions, and showed great teamwork.
The train journey to and from Preston added an extra layer of excitement to the trip, and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Overall, it was a highly successful and enjoyable day, leaving our Eco Warriors inspired and even more passionate about making a difference.
