Year 4 had a fantastic time visiting Manchester Museum this week. After arriving just after 10am and storing our belongings safely, we were ready to begin exploring!
We started our day in the vivarium, where we observed the fascinating creatures living there. We then moved into the natural world galleries and were amazed by the huge variety of animals on display.
Next, we explored the dinosaur gallery. The children enjoyed linking this experience back to their learning about Mary Anning in September and were shocked by the enormous size of the Tyrannosaurus rex! Some of us even touched the oldest object in the museum, a rock that is an incredible three billion years old.
After lunch, we explored the Asia Gallery, where we particularly enjoyed listening to the music. We then took part in a special Ancient Egyptian workshop hosted by Jennie. She had an incredible knowledge of Ancient Egypt and answered all of our questions. We examined real artefacts, searched for clues about their history and helped Jennie decide which objects should be displayed in the museum next.
Finally, we completed a scavenger hunt in the Ancient Egypt galleries. We searched carefully for specific objects before returning to our museum classroom to share everything we had discovered.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip and learned so much throughout the day. We would definitely recommend a visit to Manchester Museum! The only downside was the heavy traffic we encountered on our journey home!
