This half term, Year 3 have been learning all about rocks and fossils in our Science lessons.
We have explored the different properties of rocks by making careful observations and conducting fair tests, and this week we explored how the different types of rocks are formed - with a delicious twist!
The children worked together to form their very own chocolate rocks, exploring the process by which Sedimentary and Metamorphic rocks are formed. First, they had to use a lot of strength to compact the different layers of "sediment" to form their Sedimentary rocks, before using their hands to apply heat and pressure to their rocks transform them into Metamorphic rocks.
The class did a fantastic job forming their rocks and observing the differences when we looked inside, and even managed to do it without making too much of a mess!
