On Tuesday, Year 5 had the honour of leading the school Remembrance Day assembly.
Children gave a bit of background into the importance of Remembrance Day- linking back to their learning on World War 2. Year 5 explained that on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour, we take the opportunity to reflect. Thinking about all those soldiers who have died fighting for our freedom, in World War I, World War 2 and more recent conflicts too. They explained that we take this time to also show our gratitude for those who may have sadly lost their life and for those who continue to fight, defend and protect our country.
Children led a whole school 2 minute silence, read Remembrance Day poems they had written with thought and maturity and two children read out the famous poem ''In Flanders Field.'' Year 5 taught the rest of the school the origin of the poppy and also introduced them to the purple, white and black poppies and their representations.
Year 5 worked really hard on their assembly, took the responsibility very seriously and delivered the important message with confidence and the respect owed to it. Thank you all so much to those of you who attended the assembly and a big well done to all of Year 5.
