EYFS Celebrate Diwali – The Festival of Light
This week in EYFS, we have been learning all about Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. Through stories, discussion, and creative activities, the children explored how Diwali is celebrated and why it is such a special time for many families.
As part of our learning, we made our own Diya lamps using clay. The children enjoyed shaping the clay with their hands, helping to develop their fine motor skills. Once dry, they carefully painted and decorated their lamps using bright colours and glitter – showing lots of imagination and creativity - we hope you like them as much as we do!
This activity supported several areas of the Early Learning Goals, including:
-
Understanding the World – Children learned about a different culture and its traditions, building respect and understanding of people and communities beyond their own.
-
Expressive Arts and Design – By creating and decorating their own Diya lamps, the children explored artistic techniques and expressed their own ideas through art.
-
Communication and Language – Children listened to and discussed the story of Diwali, asking questions and sharing their thoughts using new vocabulary.
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development – The children showed pride in their work and shared their creations with others, promoting a sense of belonging and community.
