Image of Exploring New Worlds in English!

Today, in our latest English unit on "Gulliver's Travels," our Year 4 explorers embarked on a creative journey similar to a traveller from the 1700s! After looking at various props and figuring out why these were used, they moved on to their main task...

To design their very own unique island! Using rice as their creative medium, they sprinkled it onto their paper and sketched around it, transforming simple grains into imaginative landscapes. The results were absolutely stunning and so distinctive!

To further fuel their creativity, the children examined old maps, studying the key markings that reveal tales of explorers past. They then incorporated these discoveries into their own maps, proudly sharing their vibrant creations with one another.

Of course, what’s an old map without that weathered look? The students enjoyed tea-staining their work to give it an authentic, vintage feel. Now their masterpieces are not only ready for future story-writing sessions but also make for a fantastic display!

We can’t wait to see what stories emerge from these imaginative islands!
