Image of Librarians in the Library!

This afternoon our Year 6 librarians visited Colne library to find out all about how libraries work.  First we had a look at all the books and learnt how fiction books are grouped.  After that we ventured upstairs to look at the local history section: Megan (our tour guide) had got out old maps of Trawden from as long ago as 1892.  We discovered that our school had originally been located on Skipton Road before moving to our current location in 1910.  We were also shown the first photo taken inside the school, it showed the headmaster and the scholars who were all sitting in rows of desks in the current hall - learning certainly looks a bit different now!  Our next challenge was to look at how non-fiction books are organised.  This was a little bit more complicated, but the children did really well and learned how to find books using the Dewey Decimal system!  A scavenger hunt to find out what we had learned ended our session.  The children loved it and we look forward to coming up with ideas for our library at school!  Thank you to Colne library for a fantastic visit!
