Year 3 have continued their DT topic where they investigated the different types of materials that might make the best sail for their kite. They made parachutes using different kinds of materials: computer paper, tissue paper, plastic bag and crepe paper. In order to ensure that it was a fair test, they made their parachutes the same size. After the test, the children were very clear which material would make the best sail. They voted almost unanimously for the plastic bag. They ranked the materials as follows:
1. plastic bag
2. tissue paper
3 crepe paper
4. computer paper
They also explained why the plastic bag was best and talked about its light weight and ability to float in the wind.
