Making Paper Boats

Today, wthe children started their new English unit, which is based around the wordless picture book 'Float' by Daniel Miyares. They delved in by using origami to create our own paper boats. 

The children were initially given the picture instructions from the book and asked to follow them without any additional insturctions... It was very tricky and everyone failed (just like Mr Loynds when he tried over half-term). The class discussed how they felt at different parts of the task and how their feelings changed from being apprehensive that they would complete this on our own, to becoming frustrated when the instructions didn't make sense. 

Next, Mr Loynds provided the children with a new piece of paper and discussed the instructions with the children to ensure they understood. As you can tell by the photos, the children were very happy when they realised they had been successful! 

They are looking forward to finding out what will happen with the paper boats in the story!
