We've had several Sophies in assembly, many Matildas running a mile and a crowd of Charlies in assembly.... yes, today is Roald Dahl day. In its seventeenth year, the day celebrates the many wonderful stories of Roald Dahl (1916-1990) on the date of his birth. We gathered together for an assembly to kick off our day, which we followed up with reading, sharing ideas and being creative within our classes. Thank you everyone for your fabulous efforts in dressing up and sharing your favourite characters and stories today so early on in the school term.
Here's a few wonderful quote from Dahl's books. Which one do you like the most?
“If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it. A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” (The Twits)
'Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world.' (Matilda)
'So shines a good deed in a weary world.' (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.)
