We’re absolutely delighted to share that Trawden Forest Primary School has achieved our Food for Life Silver Award!
Our journey began with Bronze, and we’ve been working hard to build on this - bringing our school garden, growing, cooking and food education even more into the heart of school life.
Our children grow fruit and vegetables in our school garden and polytunnels, with some of our produce making its way into school meals.
We’ve seen children try foods they had never tasted before, and even foods they thought they didn’t like! One of our favourite moments was seeing children who had previously said they didn’t like broccoli try our school-grown broccoli and then ask for more.
From peas, beans, strawberries and cucumbers to broccoli, apples and an ever-growing list of things we’ve grown ourselves, our garden is helping children understand where food comes from and encouraging them to try, taste and explore.
We’re also continuing to develop our links between growing, cooking, healthy eating and sustainability across the school.
A huge thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way. This award is a wonderful recognition of the work we are putting into making food and growing such an important part of life at Trawden Forest Primary School.
Silver achieved… but we’re not stopping there! We’ve already started our journey towards Food for Life Gold!
