What a way to start a Thursday!

Today, the whole school enjoyed an exciting assembly led by Shannon from iRock, a company dedicated to providing Rock Band-style music lessons for children.

Shannon brought along an electric guitar, keyboard, electric drum kit and microphone, and quickly had everyone singing along. She explained how bands are formed and highlighted the importance of teamwork, listening, collaboration and practice.

The children then explored beat and rhythm by clapping along to a drumbeat before adding the words to We Will Rock You. The highlight of the assembly came when several children were invited to learn an instrument. With Shannon's guidance, children with no previous experience quickly learned their parts and performed together as a band for the rest of the school.

From September, children will have the opportunity to take part in weekly iRock lessons. Working in groups, they will learn instruments, choose a band name, rehearse together and perform for the school and their families.
