Wow – what an incredibly busy and productive session from our amazing gardeners this week!

One of our gardeners proudly brought in a pot of cress they had grown at home. After washing it carefully, the children enjoyed a taste-testing session, with many asking for seconds! We talked about the peppery flavour of cress and how different plants can all have their own unique tastes and textures.

Around the garden, we deadheaded the remaining daffodils to help the plants send their energy back into the bulbs, encouraging stronger blooms next year.

We also emptied and prepared the entrance planters ready for our summer planting displays.

To keep our crops growing steadily throughout the season, we sowed another batch of beetroot and spring onion seeds for succession planting, helping to ensure a continuous harvest.

The children also learnt how to prick out lettuce seedlings, carefully transferring them from seed trays into larger modules to give them more space to grow.

Meanwhile, our recycled tomato tin project is underway again! Using tins from the school kitchen, we have started transplanting our tomato plants grown from seed into their new containers. This gives the plants more room for root growth, nutrients, and stability as they continue to develop into our very own ‘tinned tomatoes’ ready for sale!

Another fantastic session full of teamwork, learning and growing together.
