Our EYFS Garden Gang have been busy planting peas with Mrs Nelson to grow pea shoot microgreens - the very same tasty shoots you might find served in a gourmet restaurant!

As we planted, we talked about how some crops can be harvested young as microgreens, and the children were fascinated to learn that we don’t always have to wait for vegetables to grow to full size before enjoying them.

Carefully placing each pea into the compost was fantastic fine motor skill practice, and the children proudly wrote their own plant labels to put into the trays.

Now we’re looking forward to watching them germinate and begin to grow over February half term. Once ready, the children will harvest their pea shoots, take them around the classes for a taste-testing session, and then see them served with our school lunches — from seed tray to school plate!

We can’t wait to share their progress.
