It may be November, but our school growing area is still bursting with produce! This week we harvested beetroot, peppers, chillies, the very last of our purple tomatoes, and — amazingly — garden peas from a late August planting! The children loved picking and tasting the peas straight from the pods.

We also gathered our wonderful tromboncinos, which have been a real highlight of this year’s growing season.

There’s still lettuce and a few more crops to harvest for the school kitchen, and we’re excited to see that the garlic is already sprouting. We also checked on our broad beans, which are coming along nicely for an early spring crop, and our bird house gourd, which will be ready to harvest next week.

Meanwhile, our composting efforts are going brilliantly. Another compost bay is now completely full with gardening and snack waste, all breaking down beautifully ready to feed next year’s growing season.

Even in the colder months, there’s so much learning — and so much growing — happening in our garden.
