This week in EYFS has been filled with imagination, creativity and a range of exciting learning opportunities.
We continued our learning about the artist Alma Thomas and explored her vibrant, patterned artwork. The children enjoyed studying how she used colour, shape and repeated patterns, and this inspired them to create their own wonderful pieces. Both indoors and outdoors, children experimented with painting, collage and pattern-making, developing increasing confidence in choosing their own tools, combining materials and expressing their ideas creatively.
During Forest School, the children collected a selection of autumn leaves. Back in provision, some children chose a leaf to use as the body of a character and then drew on the arms, legs and facial features. They took great care in thinking about how their leaf people would look, showing imagination, control of their drawing tools and careful observation of shape and form. We will be using the rest of our collected leaves next week for more leaf-inspired artwork.
Our Drawing Club journey has continued with great enthusiasm. The children invented their own broomsticks and magical characters with special powers. Through the world of magic codes, they have been practising their mark making, letter formation and early writing as they brought their imaginative ideas to life. They confidently shared their creations, building their storytelling skills and developing rich language as they described their characters and their adventures.
In maths, the children have been developing their understanding that each counting number is one more than the one before. Through hands-on activities, number rhymes, practical counting and outdoor challenges, they have been recognising, ordering and talking about numbers in familiar contexts. Many children are beginning to use the language of “one more” independently during their play and problem-solving.
It has been a wonderful week filled with curiosity, creativity and engagement. We look forward to continuing our exciting learning next week.
