What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in EYFS!

We started the week learning all about Bonfire Night. The children talked about how we celebrate safely and learned important messages about being careful around fire and fireworks. They created their very own firework pictures using bright colours and glitter, and everyone enjoyed making delicious chocolate sparklers – they were a big hit!

In our small world area, the children have loved continuing the firework theme by creating their own displays and building special places for the little people to watch the fireworks safely. There has been so much imagination and teamwork on show!

To end the week, we turned our attention to Remembrance Day. The children have been busy making poppies in lots of creative ways – using collage materials, paint, and even building blocks. We’ve also made some beautiful poppy posters for our classroom windows to help us remember and show respect.

Throughout the week, the children have been developing a range of skills linked to the Early Learning Goals (ELGs), including:

  • Understanding the World – learning about traditions, celebrations, and why we remember.

  • Expressive Arts and Design – exploring different materials, colours, and techniques to create artwork.

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development – learning about safety, respect, and how to care for others.

  • Communication and Language – sharing ideas, asking questions, and explaining what they have learned.
