In our History lesson yesterday, children were presented with 7 items used on The Home Front during World War 2. Their first task was to work as a team to discuss and ultimately decide what they thought each item was, what it might have been used for and how it may have positively impacted life on The Home Front during the war. We had some fantastic guesses from a handheld kettle, a cheese grater and even a horse poo scooper!

Today, we continued the lesson. Children had the items true use revealed to them. Then they were given the really tricky job of trying to bluff the rest of the class, tricking them with ''two lies'' and a truth. The aim of the activity was to try and convince the rest of the class and keep them from working out the item's true use.  Some teams were successful in bluffing but other teams were just too honest for their own good! Children really engaged in the lesson and we had a fantastic discussion about what darning socks meant and even watched a little tutorial. Hopefully, next time they get a hole in their sock children might just ask to use a darning mushroom to mend it.

Make sure to ask your children all about the items! I wonder how many of the items grown ups at home could name?
