What an incredible start to our new unit of learning in Year 4, inspired by the delightful story ‘Float’ by Daniel Miyares!

The excitement kicked off when our class set out to make their very own paper boats. Armed with just the picture instructions and a healthy dose of determination, they attempted the challenge without any adult assistance. However, as with any great adventure, they quickly encountered some obstacles and found themselves struggling to complete their tasks.

This led to a discussion about resilience—how it felt to face difficulties and brainstorming ways to overcome them together. After some reflection, Mr Loynds stepped in to demonstrate the art of paper boat making, and the children quickly mastered the technique, crafting not one but TWO boats each! One for display and the other for… testing, of course! After all, you can’t make a paper boat and not see it float!

The highlight of the lesson was undoubtedly our outdoor races! We transformed our playground with mini streams using jugs of water and guttering, igniting lively competition and lots of cheer! Laughter echoed as our boats raced to the finish line, leaving everyone with smiles and unforgettable memories.
