Remote Learning at Trawden Forest Primary School
This guide explains how we will support your child’s learning if school ever has to close again due to unforeseen circumstances. Our aim is to make remote education as close as possible to what children would normally experience in the classroom.
What Remote Learning Looks Like
Remote learning means any learning done at home when the teacher is not in the same room as the children. Depending on age and subject, learning will be provided through:
- Google Classroom (Years 1–6): live lessons, pre-recorded videos, and online resources
- Printed work packs (mainly for Foundation Stage)
- External apps/websites recommended by school
- Exercise books and resources provided in a ‘remote learning pack’
Daily Timetable
Each day, children will be expected to complete:
- Maths
- English
- Phonics (Foundation Stage & KS1)
- Spellings (KS2)
- Mental maths activity
- One foundation subject (e.g. science, history, geography, music, computing, art, RE)
Parents will receive a timetable with links to lessons and resources. Remote learning packs (including logins, books, pencils, and any extra resources) will be sent home in advance where possible.
Teaching and Contact
In the event of full or partial closure:
- Teachers will be available on Google Classroom between 9am–3pm
- Pupils in KS1 and KS2 will have at least three live lessons each day
- EYFS children will have a daily live session plus pre-recorded lessons
- Teaching Assistants may support or lead small group sessions online
- Printed work packs will be provided if needed
- Vulnerable children will receive a weekly phone call
Government Expectations
The Department for Education requires schools to provide remote learning that matches normal school time:
- 3 hours per day for Key Stage 1
- 4 hours per day for Key Stage 2
This includes both live teaching and independent work.
Engagement and Attendance
- Children are expected to join online lessons and complete work set.
- Absence from remote learning will be followed up as it would be in school.
- If a child is not engaging, teachers will contact parents by email or phone. Continued concerns will be referred to the headteacher.
- Welfare checks will be carried out where families are not responding.
Feedback on Learning
Children will receive feedback in different ways, including:
- Comments on work submitted through Google Classroom
- Questions and discussion during live lessons
- Online quizzes at the end of a topic
- Individual support via private message or phone call if needed
Technology and Access
- Laptops are available to loan if needed – please contact school.
- Printed packs are available if online access is difficult.
- If you are struggling to access learning, please contact your child’s teacher via ClassDojo.
Logins and Online Resources
Your child’s remote learning pack will include all necessary login details. These may include:
- Google Classroom (Years 1–6)
- Times Tables Rockstars / Numbots
- Accelerated Reader (Years 2–6)
- Bug Club
Google Classroom Information
- Children in Years 1–6 must be logged in by 9am each day, ready for learning.
- Google Classroom shows the names of other children in the class when logged in. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has confirmed this is a safe and appropriate way for children to access lessons.
