What a busy, busy and fun-filled Gardening Club session we had this week!
We were thrilled to harvest one of our very first batches of peas. A huge basket full of fresh pea pods was picked and delivered to our school kitchen which will be served at lunchtime. It doesn't get much fresher than that – from garden to plate in just a few hours!
A special mention must also go to one of our dedicated Gardening Club members, who has been saving eggshells at home for weeks. They arrived with a full compost caddy packed with eggshells, which were added to our compost bay. It’s fantastic to see our young gardeners thinking about sustainability beyond school and helping us create nutrient-rich compost for future crops.
We were also delighted when one of our Gardening Club members brought in some fabulous seeds for us to grow. Thank you for your thoughtful donation! We can’t wait to sow them and watch them become part of our garden in the months ahead.
We also planted out our Mangelwurzels (we do love saying that word!). These giant root vegetables sound like something straight out of a wizarding book and, when fully grown, their enormous roots look remarkably like a Harry Potter Mandrake!
All of our onions were planted out and are now settling into their new beds ready for a crop later in the year.
The children enjoyed picking, preparing and, of course, tasting our delicious strawberries - a firm Gardening Club favourite!
Our maincrop potatoes were all carefully earthed up to help protect and encourage a bumper harvest.
We sowed carrots in our 'Mr McGregor's Garden' and planted another batch of beetroot and spring onions to keep the harvests coming throughout the season.
There was plenty of digging, planting, harvesting and tasting along the way. We are so proud of everything the children are achieving in the garden and can't wait to see how everything grows over the coming weeks!
