After a week of hot weather, our Gardening Club members were met with a rather different challenge this week as some very heavy downpours swept through during the session. Nevertheless, our enthusiastic gardeners were undeterred and managed to make a start on several exciting projects around the school garden.

One group began planting some of the generously donated flower bulbs into pots, where they will establish strong roots before being planted out later in the season. These bulbs were kindly donated by B&Q and brought into school by Mrs Smith-Shelley, Mum of Freya, a Gardening Club member who was with us last year before moving on to high school. We are very grateful for this generous contribution.

Another team helped to extend our existing pollinator border by preparing additional planting space. The existing border is beginning to open up beautifully now and is attracting lots of insects, which has been wonderful to see.

Elsewhere in the garden, there is plenty happening! The strawberries are producing fruit, the pea pods are swelling, the squash plants are flowering, and the tomatoes are starting to ripen. The grapevine is covered in delicate flowers, and we’re keeping a close eye on the developing figs and peaches as they continue to swell. It is always exciting to see the garden changing from week to week, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the season progresses!
