Year 6 pupils embraced outdoor learning this week during an engaging Forest School session that combined geography and teamwork skills. The children began by exploring key features on maps and discussing the meaning of common symbols, building their confidence in reading and interpreting geographical information. They then applied their knowledge creatively by constructing their own natural maps of the Forest School area using materials found on site. The session continued with a focus on navigation, as pupils learned the four and then eight compass points before taking part in a series of fun directional challenges. The activities not only strengthened their understanding of maps and orientation but also encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and a deeper connection with the natural environment. The session ended with a calm period of reflection, where pupils sat quietly to listen to the sounds of the forest, particularly birdsong adding a peaceful, thoughtful close to an active day of learning.
