In History today, Year 5 were incredibly excited to be given a secret, spy mission!

We have started learning about The Anglo-Saxons and The Vikings. To kick off our first Viking lesson, children were given their mission. A Viking longboat had moored onshore (in our school hall). Children had to work in small teams and discreetly go and spy on the ship, gathering intel on what it looked like, the design and how the boat helped the Vikings be such successful and effective raiders. They were given 10 seconds to go and look at the ships, 10 seconds to come back and draw what they had seen and a further 10 seconds to prep the next spy on what to look out for.

Children did incredibly well at this task and were then treated to a visit from Sven ( an expert Viking longship builder). They were able to ask Sven lots of questions about how the boats were made, how tall they were, how many men it could carry and how they were able to steer them. Sven answered as many questions as he could before children had to write down as much as they could remember.

What a fantastic lesson!
