Today the children took part in an exciting science investigation as they explored chemical reactions.

The children observed and listened during a whole class discussion and then enjoyed taking part in the experiment themselves! The children used pipettes to carefully squeeze coloured vinegar onto 'dinosaur eggs' made from bicarbonate of soda. We watched closely to see what would happen next. As the vinegar touched the powder, the eggs began to fizz, bubble and foam, which created lots of excitement and curiosity.

During the investigation we talked about new scientific vocabulary including chemicals, reaction, liquid, gas, mixture, dissolve, fizz, bubbles and change. The children observed how the two substances mixed together and noticed the gas being released as lots of bubbles. We also explored colour mixing and how the colours can be mixed together to create new ones!

There were some fantastic predictions, questions and discussions throughout the activity. The children were curious to find out what might happen, why the eggs were fizzing and what would happen if we added more vinegar.

It was wonderful to see the children thinking like young scientists - observing carefully, exploring, experimenting and sharing their ideas with their friends.
