Today we’re celebrating National Bean Day by shining a spotlight on the incredible variety of beans planted in our school garden last season. We’ve grown an amazing range – from broad beans and dwarf purple beans to climbing varieties, including French beans and runner beans. As the beans were harvested and explored, the children opened the pods to reveal the vibrant colours of some of the beans inside, sparking real excitement and curiosity as they were compared to Jack’s Magic Beans
Our beans didn’t just look beautiful – they were put to delicious use too. The children enjoyed outdoor cooking, making tasty bean burgers and a wonderful purple bean dip, linking growing, harvesting and food preparation in a memorable way. Some of the beans from last year's harvest have been carefully saved as seed, with preparations getting underway for this year’s growing season.
So, the big question is… Will Trawden Forest Primary School grow a giant beanstalk this year?
Maybe we will… because in our fabulous school garden, anything is possible!
