Yesterday, Year 5 and 6 were treated to a very special guest, Charlotte Hartley. Charlotte's achievements include winning a bronze Medal at the Commonwealth Games, a gold medal at the Junior Olympics and more recently, winning a gold medal at the Masters World Cup. Charlotte's love for hockey began at school, and she says she was inspired by her PE teacher.
Her passion now is educating children on how to take care of not only their physical well-being, but their mental well-being too. Children participated in lots of physical challenges which focused on teamwork, collaboration and communication. Back in class, children were taught about the importance of a healthy lifestyle focussing on nutrition but Charlotte also stressed the importance of taking care of your mental health. She explained to children how precious their brains are and how important it is that they take care of them, something as simple as a walk in the fresh air or listening to music. Children also discussed the importance of sleep to their wellbeing and how making small changes to their everyday routine- such as limiting screen time at night, paying a compliment to others or getting more physical exercise outside, would benefit them greatly.
Both Year 5 and Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed meeting Charlotte, hearing her story and got a lot from the sessions. It was wonderful to see the children engaging and working together to complete some of the physical challenges in the hall and the most rewarding part was hearing them congratulate and encourage others too.
