Year 5 had a really exciting Science lesson this afternoon to finish off another week of learning.

Our topic for this half term has been all about materials and their properties. This afternoon, children learnt about hardness, transparency and magnetism. They were given 3 materials (cardboard, tin-foil and wood) and were tasked with testing out whether these materials were hard or soft, transparent or opaque and finally whether they were magnetic or not. Before they got investigating, children made predictions as to which properties they thought the materials would have.

Children were really engaged and seemed to really enjoy using the screws to scratch the materials to test it's hardness. They also used magnets to test for magnetism and tried to see if they could see through the materials to test it for transparency. We had a great time learning about these properties and can't wait to complete our investigation with a few more materials next week.
