Another bumper harvest for Gardening Club this week! We lifted one of the tubs of main crop potatoes and pulled up the rest of our first batch of onions – and some of them were absolutely enormous!

Our sunflower bed has almost finished flowering. The heads have now been taken off to dry, ready for us to use the seeds to make our very own bird seed feeders.

We also sowed more radish and spring onions for a late harvest, keeping the growing season going a little longer.

The children had great fun harvesting the runner beans. Some of the earlier pods had been left on the plant to dry, so we were able to gather the seed and save it for planting again next year. Peeking inside the pods was magical – the children were amazed at the pink beans with speckles, calling them “Jack’s Magic Beans!” One even asked if they would grow into a beanstalk… and with the size of this year’s onions, who knows what we will grow next year!
